Alpheus Franklin Ames, son of Tyrus and Florence Ames, was born in Brown County, Nebraska, Dec 11, 1884, and died near Tyrone, Monroe County, Iowa, December 14, 1908 age 24 years. The remains were taken to Miller's Ridge where funeral services were conducted at the church by Rev. Frank Roberts, interment taking place at the Smith Cemetery. The subject of this sketch was always considered a healthy boy until about a year ago when that dread disease, consumption, began to destroy his constitution and finally took his life. Through all his sickness he displayed remarkable patience and endurance, and was out upon the road and about the farm up to within a few days of his death. He was honest, industrious and kind, and took especial interest in the welfare of his mother who was left a widow about four years ago. He leaves a mother, one brother and four sisters besides a host of friends to mourn his early death.
