The Monroe County Genealogical Society material has been moved from the east room of the library to the community room in the basement. On the left when entering the door, is the photocopier and microfilm reader-printer, a wooden chest containing microfilm in second and third drawers. On top of the chest are metal file drawers containing card index to newspapers. Also on this side of the room is a file cabinet containing some unbound family histories in top and second drawers and inqueries in second and bottom drawers. An index is in plastic drawers on top of filing cabinet.
In the center of the room are tables and chairs. On the table is the Monroe County Genealogical Society guest register, which we ask you to sign. You can also state briefly your research or interest in Monroe County and we will print these in the newsletter. There is also a library list in this and free material from the genealogical society. Another notebook on the table is information on the Iowa Genealogical Society Library, their publications catalog and free membership brochures. Behind the tables, on the right are doors labeled with the contents of library materials. On the shelf under the windows are genealogical society newsletters from all over the state and a few out of state. Here also, is a box containing genealogical catalogs and materials catalogs.
The microfilm viewer and copier are for public use. Cost is $.25 a page, pay the librarian at the desk upstairs. If you need assistance, the librarians have names and phone numbers of MCGS members who will come.
